COMPANY: The Juicery Co.
The Story: The Juicery Co. was a family enterprise from the outset. When Alex Troll’s grandfather was diagnosed with cancer in 2013, she and her family began making organic juice for him, plus for themselves and friends. Within six months, the North Vancouver native, who has a diploma in retail marketing and business administration from Capilano University, had quit her job at Aritzia and convinced her mother to leave her nursing position at Lions Gate Hospital to go into business together. Her sister now manages one of the stores.
Markers of Success: Troll now has two Juicery stores in North Vancouver and one in Kitsilano, and is scouting locations for another Vancouver store. Staff has grown from four to 30 employees, and the company recently purchased farmland in Pemberton where it plans to grow 40 per cent of the produce for its juices.
