More than 400 guests raised $1.1 million at the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation’s 26th annual Crystal Ball. The money raised goes toward the foundation’s capital campaign, the Campaign for BC Children, which supports the construction of a new BC Children’s Hospital. Proceeds from the gala bring the total raised in the $200-million campaign to more than $155 million. Diane Norton chaired the event for her fourth consecutive and final year, and will now hand the role over to Arya Eshgi.

Looking sharp in a tuxedo, Children’s Hospital patient Casey Wright stole the show when he took the stage to thank sponsors and guests. The 12 year old has a brain tumour, which has robbed him of vision in one eye and inhibited his growth, leaving him about the size of a six-year-old. He has become an eloquent spokesperson for the foundation and received a standing ovation.

Four Seasons executive chef Ned Bell was the creative mastermind behind the evening’s delectable spread, which included a salmon and dungeness crab paupiette, pea tendrils and gingerbread crumble. Congratulations to the committee on another very successful Crystal Ball event!
