Canadian Cancer Society’s Inaugural Relay For Life Dream Team

The fundraising efforts for this year’s Relay For Life is elevated with the introduction of Dream Team members made up of high-profile Canadians

B.C.’s inaugural Relay For Life Dream Team is ready to elevate the country’s largest fundraising event to new heights. These 100 high-profile Canadians are committed to raising $10,000 each to help the Canadian Cancer Society achieve its goals: to eradicate cancer and enhance the lives of those living with it.

Leaders in their professions and their communities, Relay For Life Dream Team members have shown a sense of compassion and the ability to have a substantial impact on others. Their dedication and involvement will make a tremendous difference to Canadian Cancer Society’s signature fundraising event: Relay For Life.

Nearly 400 communities across Canada participated in Relay For Life in 2014, raising over $40 million to advance cancer research and support people with cancer. The 2015 Relay For Life Dream Team will bring the Canadian Cancer Society’s efforts to a new level.

Portfolio manager Miles Clyne, a long-time supporter of the Canadian Cancer Society, is thrilled about being a member of the first Dream Team for the BC and Yukon division. The director of the Tycuda Group at Langley’s MacDougall Investment Counsel Inc. first attended a Relay For Life event in 1998 in support of his wife.

“She proudly walked the Victory Lap with so many other cancer survivors,” Miles says. “My commitment to the Canadian Cancer Society has deepened as so many friends have been diagnosed with cancer or are currently battling cancer.”

In the past, Miles has co-hosted a Spring Business Gala that raised over $16,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society, and he also raised more than $5,000 by shaving his head for the Cops for Cancer campaign.

“I fundraise to help support research that is getting closer and closer to finding cures, and to help support those battling this horrible disease, to help create a future without cancer,” says Miles. “It is time to put an end to this devastating disease.”

Sarah Trottier, commercial account manager with BMO Bank of Montreal has participated in many Relay For Life events in her native Prince George. Her entrepreneurial parents instilled in her from a young age the importance of giving back. Being part of the Dream Team is an opportunity to amplify her support for a cause she truly believes in.

“I’ve been involved in various fundraising efforts from a very early stage in life,” says Sarah “Fundraising for various causes has always been something I’ve worked hard at.”

Proud northerner Brent Marshall, president of RE/MAX Centre City Realty Prince George and owner of several other businesses, shares his passion for philanthropy with his staff members. Under his leadership, along with incredible effort put forth by the team, Brent has enabled his companies to donate more than $3 million to local health care in less than 10 years.

“As a Dream Team member, I Relay to show my support for all those who have had to battle this terrible disease, and for all the friends and relatives it has taken from us,” says Brent.

“Anyone who has participated in a Relay knows the power that comes from honouring friends and loved ones who have fought cancer,” says Barbara Kaminsky, CEO of Canadian Cancer Society, BC and Yukon. “Without the dedicated volunteers who raise millions of dollars across B.C., we wouldn’t be able to provide the hands-on support and life-saving research that is critical to fighting cancer. The commitment from Dream Team members like Miles, Sarah and Brent to raise more than $10,000 each is inspiring and ensures that important work in the fight against cancer can continue.”
