Collett Manor is paving the way for a new approach to design and construction projects

The Medical Services Centre and Residences at Collett Manor in Kelowna, B.C. is registered with the intent of becoming Canada’s first WELL Certified project, paving the way for a development revolution that sees health and wellness become a primary driver of design and construction choices.

“In our mission to integrate hospitality into health care, we discovered Delos which pioneered the WELL Building Standard,” explains Alana Marrington, the entrepreneur behind Collett Manor.

“They [Delos] shared our philosophy to introduce scientifically validated features to positively impact health, vitality and bring an overall sense of relaxation into the spaces we live, work or visit.”

Collet Manor has engaged Delos to serve as its wellness advisor in seeking: WELL Certification of the Medical Centre portion of the development project; and for WELL Core and Shell Compliance for the core, shell and base systems of the residences within the development. www.delosliving.com

The WELL Building Standard is third-party certified by the Green Building Certification Institute–the same organization that provides certification for LEED.

The unique multi-use development project, located steps away from Kelowna Regional Hospital (KGH), aims to integrate hospitality into health care.

“Passionate research and dedication is what Collett Manor was founded on. Our experiences caring for family and friends as they moved through the medical system,” Marrington says of the driving force behind the project.

“We focused on providing a place to stay, short-term, home away from home. That’s why we designed a space that adapts to life and encourages positive and healing energies whether you are there for short-term or permanent residence. Commercial Medical ancillary space also benefits from the same healthy details as the residential,” adds Marrington.

Some of the features of Collett Manor, designed by GTA Architects Ltd. of Kelowna BC, include: flexible wall systems; an innovative flooring material that deactivates bacteria; landscaping that is completely edible and non-toxic; other design elements may include anti-microbial Corian countertops and touchless faucets, there is simply too many to list.

The features and design choices made by Marrington have made the Kelowna development a prime candidate for seeking certification under the International WELL Building Institute’s WELL Building Standard pilot program and will fill a long empty gap in the communities medical landscape.
