Grant Thornton and Malish & Clark have joined forces to better serve private businesses

Langley-based accounting firm Malish & Clark joins Grant Thornton, further strengthening its ability to help private businesses in the Fraser Valley

Running a private business today is quite different than it was 25 years ago, when Malish & Clark, a Langley-based accounting and tax firm, first opened its doors. Technology has made the world much smaller—and accessing new customer and geographical markets much easier. At the same time, risk management, succession planning and tax structuring has become more complex.

Recognizing these changes, Malish & Clark realized that to maintain its high level of service—and continue helping local private businesses grow effectively—it needed to adapt. It decided the best way to do this was to gain access to the talent, resources and reach of a national firm—one that believed in Malish & Clark’s long-standing connection with the local community.

After lengthy research and consideration, Malish & Clark found its partner in Grant Thornton LLP and joined the firm on January 1, 2016.

“We’re not just becoming a cog in a large, corporate wheel. Grant Thornton shares our belief in putting our people—and our clients—first, and that’s how we’ll continue to operate,” says Steve Malish, partner at Malish & Clark. “Working with owner-managed businesses is our passion, and we’re fortunate to have found a partner that also shares this focus and commitment.”

While Malish & Clark will join Grant Thornton, all other aspects of the business will continue, as usual.

“Grant Thornton shares Malish & Clark’s commitment to the Fraser Valley community, and that will continue to be an important part of our business moving forward,” says Colin Yakashiro, Grant Thornton managing partner for South Coastal B.C. “In fact, it’s quite amazing how similar our two practices are—in size, culture and client base. We’re looking forward to coming together and providing even better service for our clients.”

Clients will still be greeted by the same friendly, familiar faces, and continue to receive the same high level of service to which they’ve grown accustomed. Now, however, a broader range of offerings—including more extensive tax resources and advisory services that will include valuations, enterprise risk management, M&A, succession and estate planning, corporate restructuring and business transaction structuring—will be available.

For privately held business owners operating in Langley and the Fraser Valley, this is nothing but good news. Shifting global forces, technological changes and mounting competition make it harder than ever for private businesses to excel. With access to the right support network, advice and business resources, however, the path to success becomes much clearer. Malish & Clark and Grant Thornton look forward to helping pave the way.
