4 new eateries and a distillery to check out in March

The cult of Whole Foods expands eastward beyond Vancouver city limits

The latest developments in the world of lifestyle—from retail to restaurants to travel (and more!)

Retail
Burnaby now has its first Whole Foods Market and B.C. its fifth–a 41,000-square-foot store at Lougheed and Willingdon. Look for more than 30 products from new B.C. vendors and Whole Foods Market‘s first dosa venue, offering various fillings wrapped in a sour lentil pancake.

Distillery
Victoria Spirits, purchased last year by Marker Group, is getting a new name–Victoria Distillers–and a new home. This spring the company is moving to a larger facility in the Seaport Place on Sidney‘s waterfront where it hopes to engage locals and visitors interested in small-batch distilling.

Eatery
L‘Abattoir co-owner Paul Grunberg, restaurant designer Craig Stanghetta and former CinCin head chef Mark Perrier have opened a rustic Italian restaurant on Kingsway near Fraser. Osteria Savio Volpe features handmade pasta, grilled meats and Italian wines.

Spirit
Vij‘s has a new location on Cambie near 15th Avenue plus a new gin. Vij‘s Bolly Water, made by Okanagan Crush Pad, is flavoured with juniper berries, citrus and spices: a cocktail base for drinks complementing Vij‘s Indian-inspired cuisine.
