Windset Farms operates greenhouses in Delta and Abbotsford.

Windset Farms takes home prestigious tomato marketing award

“We’re beaming red as a tomato,” posted the company on Twitter, as it took home top prize at the 2014 Tomato Inspiration Event in Berlin earlier this month. A group of 80 global growers and horticultural suppliers awarded Windset Farms as the world’s best tomato grower in marketing and sales.

“We couldn’t be more proud,” said John Newell, COO and co-founder of Windset Farms, along with his brother Steven Newell. Steven, who is CEO, was on hand to accept the award.

Based in Delta, B.C., Windset operates 267 hectares of greenhouse facilities in the Lower Mainland, Nevada, California and Mexico, with additional contract growers in Europe and New Zealand.

Windset’s products are sold across Western Canada, the Western U.S. and Mexico. The company grows a range of tomatoes, peppers, endives, lettuces and eggplants.

Sales of B.C. greenhouse-grown produce totalled $199 million last year, or about a fifth of all farm-to-market sales of vegetables, fruit and seafood in B.C.
