Pot shots Medical marijuana dispensaries may not be a police priority here in the Wild West, but that doesn’t mean anything goes. Vancouver police have executed 11 search warrants on illegal pot shops, most recently the Limelife Society in East Vancouver on Wednesday night. The VPD had received a tip in July that the store had links to organized crime and discovered during the investigation that it was selling marijuana to youth and people who lacked a valid licence. And in Victoria, police have told the Gorge Cannabis Dispensary to stop handing out flyers advertising “free premium cannabis,” reports the Times Colonist. A two-for-one deal offered new members who bought a gram of marijuana an additional gram free. The police objected that the flyer could be perceived as trafficking as it didn’t mention the marijuana was for medical purposes.
Conditions may applyB.C.’s environmental assessment of Woodfibre LNG Limited is back on track after the company agreed to accept conditions imposed by the Squamish Nation, which is conducting a separate environmental review. The project requires both provincial and federal approval based on the review being conducted by the BC Environmental Assessment Office. Meanwhile, the National Energy Board has released 145 draft conditions for Kinder Morgan’s $5.4-billion Trans Mountain proposal to triple the capacity of its pipeline between Edmonton and Burnaby. Conditions include $1 billion liability insurance and $100 million ready cash.
Brentwood maul Sausage-making is a messy business, especially at the International Sausage House in Burnaby’s Brentwood neighbourhood. Operating at Gilmore Avenue and Halifax Street since 1967, the current business owners and property owners have been embroiled in a lawsuit over whether to sell to Olympic Village builder Millennium Development Group, which owns the adjacent land. It appears condos won out: International Sausage is closing September 5, terminating jobs for 40 workers Labour Day weekend. (via Georgia Straight)
