Congratulations to Cascadia Windows Ltd., #8 in 2012’s Most Innovative Companies in B.C.

The word “sustainability” may have worn out its welcome, but green buildings and energy efficiency are no less important than they ever were. Langley’s Cascadia Windows Ltd. has earned a green reputation with a tiny but significant energy-saving innovation.

The Cascadia Clip is a fibreglass thermal spacer used to separate energy-absorbing steel supports from exterior insulated walls in building construction. Buildings typically lose heat through traditional steel supports that run through their insulation. The fibreglass clip reduces thermal bridging, which Cascadia claims doubles the efficiency of insulation.

In October 2011 Cascadia’s technology won the Sustainable Construction and Innovation Award from the Vancouver Regional Construction Association, affirming its status as a breakthrough product. VRCA president Keith Sashaw says products like the Cascadia Clip are “critical” for the construction industry as it seeks “innovative responses to deal with emerging issues such as sustainable practices and environmental considerations.”

Cascadia’s thermal spacer is gaining quick uptake in the construction industry because using the clips earns points toward a LEED designation.
