As COVID restrictions lessen, we can indulge in some much-anticipated arts and culture
With pandemic restrictions gradually being lifted in B.C., we’re slowly but surely making the space to reintroduce live arts and culture into our daily lives. After two whole years of quarantines and mandatory distancing, the need to have fun as a community is just what the doctor ordered.
The province is a hub of entertainment—from ballets and cabarets to space-themed dance events and tap-dancing renditions of Grease. Here are 10 upcoming events for you to enjoy.
Ballet BC’s Reveal + Tell (pictured above) will see celebrated choreographers from around the globe coming together to thrill viewers with their distinct mixes of performance and prose. Featuring the works of Marco Goecke, Crystal Pite, and Medhi Walerski, this spring program will take place in Vancouver. Channelling some of the giants of classical French music, such as Edith Piaf and Jacques Offenbach, this Okanagan Symphony Orchestra concert will take place over three nights in Kelowna (March 4), Penticton (March 5) and Vernon (March 6), starring prominent guest artists like pianist Lorraine Min.

This miniseries is a unification of art and advocacy featuring Indigenous artists Leonard Sumner, Elisapie and Moe Clark, who combine multidisciplinary live performance and activism.

A part of this year’s Pacific Baroque Festival highlighting the work of Heinrich Schütz, an influential figure in German classical music, Schütz: The Succession is the first of four performances celebrating his art. The performance will dive into the foundation he laid for generations to follow.

Tara Cheyenne Friedenberg embodies the complex reality of being an artist during the pandemic through this solo performance, which combines comedy, tragedy, performance art and contemporary dance.
