Mediacorp's annual list of the country's top employers is out.
Vancouver‘s Teck Resources made a recent list of the best employers in the country
B.C. accounts for about 13 percent of the country’s population, according to the 2016 census. We’ll have to see how that number changes when the next census drops in 2022, but for now, it lines up percentage-wise with a new list of the nation’s top employers.
The 22nd annual Canada’s Top 100 Employers list, put out by Toronto’s Mediacorp Canada, features 15 B.C.-based organizations.
It includes U.S. companies that employ people here, as well as Canadian subsidiaries of stateside businesses, like Burnaby- (but soon to be Vancouver-) based Best Buy Canada.
Government-backed organizations make up a big chunk of the top 100 names, with Ottawa-based institutions appearing often. Some B.C. ones made the cut too, like the BC Public Service and Vancouver Coastal Health.
Some of the usual suspects put in a showing, too, with Vancouver-headquartered titans of industry like Telus Corp., Teck Resources and West Fraser Timber Co. making their presence known.

Burnaby’s Clio and Vancouver’s Zymeworks, now major players in legal services software and life sciences, respectively, also found their way onto the list.

Since it launched, the list has used the same eight criteria: physical workplace; work atmosphere and social; health, financial and family benefits; vacation and time off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement.
