More than $2 million raised for arthritis research

The 7th annual ARThritis Soirée raised over $2.35 million at the Hotel Vancouver’s rooftop bar with more than 400 guests in attendance. Gourmet hors d’oeuvres, champagne and wonderful B.C. wines along with an oyster bar kept partygoers busy.  There was a wide selection of auction items, including an autographed guitar signed by the Vancouver rock band Loverboy. Lead singer Mike Reno performed a handful of Loverboy hits that had the dance floor packed. Gala emcees wereGlobal News anchor Coleen Christie and man-about-town Fred Lee.
The ARThritis Soirée, presented by Macdonald Realty, brought together the city’s business and community leaders, philanthropists, doctors, scientists, health-care professionals and those who share an appreciation of art and a desire to support arthritis research. In its 100 forms, arthritis is the most costly chronic disease and the No. 1 cause of work disability in Canada. The number of Canadians affected by arthritis is over 6 million, including more than 800,000 British Columbians.
Arthritis Research Canada is the largest arthritis research organization in North America with centres in British Columbia, Alberta and Quebec. With a dedicated team of more than 100 research scientists, assistants and trainees, Arthritis Research Canada’s work in arthritis prevention, early diagnosis and treatment, and quality of life issues is internationally recognized.
