Two Vancouver companies made the 2022 edition of the national Best Places to Work ranking.
Thanks to good reviews from their workers, one B.C. company raised the stakes in a nationwide ranking, while another engineered a win.
For the latest edition of its Employees’ Choice Awards, Glassdoor just announced the Best Places to Work in Canada and four other countries. The results are based on anonymous feedback from employees about their job, work environment and employer.
The Canadian BPTW awards honour companies with 1,000 or more staff. This year’s top 10, with their ratings on a five-point scale:

With its second-place finish, Richmond-headquartered Keg Restaurants posted the biggest gain over 2021, climbing 10 spots. It was also the only company to move up the ranking. “Great team environment, lots of room for growth, competitive salary, great benefits, and they really care about their employees,” read one review.
The Keg is one of two Vancouver-area organizations to make the grade—engineering firm McElhanney debuts at No. 13—down from four in 2021. Calgary, Montreal, Quebec City and Toronto each tied Vancouver with two companies apiece.
For its part, McElhanney is one of 16 newcomers, way up from nine in 2021. Tech and finance are the top sectors this year, with 12 and three companies, respectively. And for the first time, the ranking includes three new industries: biotech and pharmaceuticals, real estate and government.
Apple, the lone name to make the list for all of its seven years, plunged to 25th place from No. 4 in 2021.
In Glassdoor’s U.S. ranking of large employers, a Vancouver-based company was the only Canadian outfit to make the top 10: Lululemon Athletica, at No. 9.

To be eligible for the latest Canadian BPTW ranking, an organization needed at least 25 ratings across nine workplace attributes from Canada-based staff, from reviews submitted between October 20, 2020, and October 18, 2021.
The other requirements: an overall rating of at 3.5 on Glassdoor, plus workplace factor ratings (career opportunities, compensation and benefits, culture and values, diversity and inclusion, senior management, work-life balance) of at least 2.5 during the eligibility period.
