A new "beer mail" system aims to make hard-to-find brews accessible to cities across the province
Victoria-based Cook St. Liquor has launched a new campaign to make local and imported craft beers available to small or remote B.C. communities. The store, known among craft beer brands as the go-to retailer for local and imported beers, is launching a mail service that sends specialty brews via Canada Post for a $35 flat shipping fee plus the cost of the beers.
“This is a new concept in craft beer marketing,” says Glenn Barlow, owner of Cook St. Liquor in a statement. “We’re making specialty beers available to those that typically don’t have access to them. British Columbian craft beer lovers will no longer be limited by what’s available in their local stores.”
Every two weeks, a curated selection of six different craft beers (650ml per bottle) is posted on Cook St. Liquor’s website. The package includes 12 large bottles, two quantities for each of the six varieties. The price varies depending on the beers offered. The company emphasizes that each package is ordered separately, and there are no subscriptions or clubs to join.
Thus far, orders have come from Campbell River, Fort St. John and the Okanagan. The latest Halloween-themed selections include: Zombie Repellant Ale Belgian Red from Saanich, Parallel 49’s chocolate pumpkin porter from Vancouver and varieties from the Yukon, Quebec and Belgium. These “hard-to-find limited brews” are selling for $120 plus shipping. Past selections since May have featured award winners, refreshing summer drinks, and bold flavour brews.
