Address: 1678 Somerset Crescent, Vancouver

Price: $12,880,000

Listing: R2410683

The skinny: Four-bedroom, five-bathroom, 5,380-square-foot house on a 25,043-square-foot lot

The bling: It’s almost Halloween, so we at BFD have an obligation to feature a haunted house of some sort. Although we couldn’t find a home currently for sale in B.C. that was the location of a grisly murder (yeah, it’s been a bit of a heavy day, thanks for asking), we did spot this Shaughnessy mansion, which is really just giving off the creepiest vibes.

Let’s start with the listing, which features seven photos, all of the intimidating, fit-for-a-horror-movie-shoot black-and-white exterior. The classic black gate leads you to a stone-crusted walkway that’s sort of tread but gets grassier at the house’s entrance, giving off an abandoned feel. It doesn’t help that the home is also situated in a particularly quiet part of Shaughnessy (what’s the opposite of an oxymoron?). The abandoned look makes sense when coupled with the fact that this house has been on the market for 756 (!) days.

But what about the interior? What the hell are the sinister folks at 1678 Somerset hiding?? Well, the only evidence of an interior we could find is this video.

OK, come on. I can’t be the only one who’s incredibly creeped out by this, can I? Despite the fairly jazzed-up exterior, this place was apparently built in 1931, and hey, that’s almost definitely why there are no photos of the inside on any of the listings. Because holy crap, does that interior give off Great Depression vibes or what? At this point, a simple run-of-the-mill haunting (doors mysteriously closing, weird breeze, et cetera) would be a win; your best-case scenario is Casper the Friendly Ghost.

The hidden extras: Three fireplaces (because that’s not creepy at all), hardwood floors and enough space outside to host the BC Lions’ training camp.
