Those wondering what Christy Clark’s next venture would be have their (somewhat boring) answer. The former B.C. premier is going to Canadian law firm Bennett Jones.
The firm, founded in Calgary in 1922, has offices across the world, including one on West Hastings Street in downtown Vancouver, where Clark will be located.
Clark was elected premier of B.C. in 2011 and held the office until last year’s election, in which she was narrowly defeated by an NDP-Green coalition.
Before that she was an MLA for Port MoodyBurnaby Mountain, provincial education minister, a Vancouver mayoral hopeful and a radio talk-show host on CKNW.
“Christy’s leadership as premier took British Columbia to new economic heights,” Hugh MacKinnon, chairman and CEO of Bennett Jones, said in a statement. “Her vision on driving growth through trade is one that our clients share.”
Clark will be added to the firm’s governmental affairs and public policy team, whose other members include fellow former politicians like exdeputy prime minister Anne McLellan and previous foreign minister John Baird.
“Joining Bennett Jones is an excellent fit,” Clark said. “The firm is helping clients seize opportunities in sectors such as infrastructure, technology and innovation, trade with Asia and natural resources. These are areas I am passionate about and worked on closely as premier.”
