It turns out that not answering questions can actually catch up with politicians sometimes. Who knew?
Today the Metro Vancouver Mayors’ Council on Regional Transportation released its 2020 election voters guide, in which the leaders of 21 municipalities in Metro Vancouver, as well as Electoral Area A and the Tsawwassen First Nation, asked B.C.’s political parties their stance on various transportation issues.
Party leaders were asked to respond to five specific questions. But as a release from the Mayors’ Council notes, the BC Liberals “provided a letter which did not specifically address the questions.”
Two of the most important queries: parties were directly asked if they’d finalize funding for the first stage of the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain project and whether they’d make the investments required to support TransLink’s Low Carbon Fleet strategy.
The BC NDP and the BC Green Party said yes to both, while the Liberals’ statement didn’t directly address any of the questions.
“When the election is over, it is critical that we get back to the table with the province to finalize the COVID-19 Rebuilding Strategy to address the projected long-term losses still facing TransLink,” said New Westminster mayor Jonathan Cote, chair of the Mayors’ Council, in a statement.
