The 20th edition of the awards gave out more than $200,000 in cash and prizes.

Nanaimo cybersecurity startup aDolus Technology will take home some $135,000 in cash and prizes after winning the 20th annual New Ventures BC competition.
The company specializes in safeguarding against malicious software and firmware in smart devices. Organizations in any industry can use its flagship FACT (Framework for Analysis and Coordinated Trust) platform, which simplifies software validation.
“We loved being part of the NVBC process and learning about what other local tech companies are doing to make a positive difference in the world,” said Eric Byres, CEO at aDolus. “We’re grateful for all of the support and look forward to continuing our steady growth for years to come.”

Vancouver companies rounded out the top three, with electric vehicle charging platform Daanaa Resolution claiming the $65,000 Innovate BC second-place prize package and lifestyle e-commerce startup Fable receiving $35,000.
Other companies winning cash included Vancouver cloud-based educational technology platform Castofly, which grabbed the $10,000 People’s Choice Award; and the Rogers Communications Prize Package winner, Victoria-based mental wellness app Rootd.
This year’s competition reportedly received a record 240 applications. Since 2000, the top 25 finalists have gone on to raise more than $860 million in investment and create about 8,600 new jobs. Notable alumni include AbCellera Biologics, Lumen5 and Cuboh.
“Whether it’s tackling mental health challenges, developing sustainable power solutions or protecting valuable company data, these companies are proof that the future of B.C.’s tech sector is as bright as it’s ever been,” said New Ventures BC executive director Angie Schick.
