Only six B.C. companies make Deloitte’s list of fastest-growing tech businesses in Canada

Vancouver-based Mojio was the highest B.C. company on the list for the second year in a row

The province’s share of the list shrank by almost half year-over-year

Last year, accounting giant Deloitte’s annual list of the fastest-growing technology, media, and telecommunications companies in Canada was dotted with B.C. endeavours.

With 20 percent of the 50 companies in the ranking, B.C. was the second-most-represented province (behind Ontario).

A year later, pretty much everything has changed, along with B.C.’s place among Canada’s tech innovators—according to Deloitte, at least. Six B.C. businesses made the 2020 list, which calculates revenue growth percentage over companies’ past four years of operation.

That was good for third place this year as Ontario again led the way, this time with 29 companies, and Quebec made a strong second-place showing with 10.

Representing B.C.’s highest spot once more was connected car platform Mojio at No. 7, a notch lower than its 2019 finish. It was followed by Instagram marketing app Later (16th), health and wellness software Jane App (24th), online education outfit Thinkific (26th) and shipping service Freightera (28th).

The lone non-Vancouver-based representative from the province: Victoria bioscience biz ImmunoPrecise Antibodies, at No. 40.

Deloitte also identified two B.C. firms in its Companies to Watch section, highlighting Victoria background check service Certn and Vancouver fintech startup Owl.
