Giving Hearts Awards recipients have raised more than $15 million for charity

National Philanthropy Day celebrates its 20th anniversary on November 15, but the festivities don’t end there. On November 16 in Vancouver, businessman, philanthropist and SFU chancellor emeritus Joe Segal, his wife, Rosalie, and their family will receive a special honour. At the Giving Hearts Awards, part of the 2017 National Philanthropy Day Luncheon & Summit, the Segals take home Outstanding Philanthropist to an Organization Raising Over $15 Million.

The National Philanthropy Day summit is presented by the Vancouver chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). Other Giving Hearts Awards winners include mining magnate–turned–cleantech developer Ross Beaty, who tops the Up to $15 Million category alongside philanthropist Martha Lou Henley; and society photographer Fred Lee, recipient of AFP Vancouver’s Charitable Champion prize.
