The celebrity-studded White Envelope Event by the Obakki Foundation raised over $450,000 for the African Bidi Bidi resettlement camp

Some 200 guests attended the White Envelope Event at the West Vancouver waterfront home of Obakki Foundation founder Treana Peake and her husband, Ryan, on August 28. The evening, which raised more than $450,000, included a backyard acoustic stage with celebrity friends, live installations from New York artists and an experience-based auction—selling only items that money can’t buy.
Among the performances were acoustic sets by Nickelback, Barney Bentall, Dallas Green, Scott Helman, Dan Mangan and Jaydee Bublé, niece of Michael Bublé, who sang Leonard Cohen‘s “Hallelujah.“
All proceeds from the White Envelope Event will provide urgently needed water, food, medical support, education and more to the 300,000 people who live in Uganda‘s Bidi Bidi resettlement camp, the largest in the world. Women and children make up 80 percent of the camp‘s population.
The event was named after a white envelope anonymously slipped under the front door of Treana’s childhood home each year. She grew up in difficult circumstances, with her mother relying on the donations to pay for birthdays, Christmas and food on the table. More than 2 million people have received support through Obakki Foundation programs that can be traced back to one person’s anonymous acts of kindness.
