The priciest property purchased in B.C. last week sold for more than $6 million

BCBusiness’s weekly snapshot of what’s selling around the province

The most-expensive property sold in the province last week—in the Okanagan—went for more than $6 million after 327 days on the market. By contrast, the second-priciest, which was in Vancouver‘s Kerrisdale neighbourhood, sold in four days for $3.76 million—close to 95 percent of asking, according to MLS figures analyzed by Vancouver-based Zolo Realty for BCBusiness.

Demand for Metro Vancouver homes picked up in the past month, according to the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver, increasing 23.5 percent over July 2018 and 23.1 percent more than June of this year.

The 8,500-square-foot Central Okanagan residence was originally listed for almost $8 million. Located on 1.1 acres in the northwestern community of Lake Country, it was built in 2000 with seven bedrooms and nine (nine!) bathrooms. Constructed in 1913, the 5,050-square foot Vancouver home has seven bedrooms and six bathrooms.

See below for details of these and other highest-/lowest-priced properties sold across the province last week.

Sales data was obtained from B.C. real estate boards by Zolo Realty on behalf of BCBusiness. The type of information from each board may vary. Because real estate records are amended and updated daily, information is always changing, and it can take three months or longer to reflect final statistics.

Zolo was launched in Vancouver in 2012 by tech entrepreneurs Riley Best, who had previously started and sold a U.K online dating site, and Jason Billingsley, who had helped found a business-to-business e-commerce operation. Looking for a new venture, the pair realized that real estate was ripe for disruption. Their primary interest was sales data, but to gain access and monetize it, they needed to be a licensed brokerage. The result was Zolo, headquartered in Vancouver, with offices in Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary and Regina.

More than six million home shoppers a month start their search on Zolo.ca, which posts real estate tips and timely statistics, too. It also helps owners sell their homes, either on their own or through an agent.
