Recruiting site Glassdoor’s annual ranking sheds light on employee preferences

Three B.C.-based companies made recruiting site Glassdoor‘s annual ranking of the 25 best places to work in Canada, which on first blush seems a tad embarrassing.

However, it’s important to note that the list includes businesses that operate in Canada, not just those based here. For example, a little company based in Redmond, Washington, called Microsoft took first spot for the second year in a row.

Glassdoor, which used employee feedback to formulate the rankings, only considered companies with at least 25 ratings from Canada-based employees and at least 1,000 workers in the country.

Rounding out the top three were San Francisco’s Salesforce, a cloud-based software outfit, and Beijing-based VIPKid, an online education tool.

B.C. actually boasts the top Canada-based company on the list, with Richmond’s Keg Restaurants sliding into fourth, the same ranking it had last year.

The other B.C.-based businesses were Burnaby-headquartered mobile phone retailer Glentel, at No. 15, and Purdy’s Chocolatier in Vancouver, which took 16th place.

Notably dropping off this year’s list were B.C. stalwarts Electronic Arts and Telus Corp.
