Any list that’s been dotted with names like Airbnb, Google, Kickstarter and Spotify is going to be hard to crack. Three B.C. businesses did just that this week as the World Economic Forum released its 20th annual cohort of technology pioneers.

Squamish-based Carbon Engineering, which uses proprietary technology to capture carbon dioxide and remove it from the air, Vancouver-headquartered identity verification service Trulioo and Kelowna’s Two Hat Security, a content moderation platform, were among the 100 companies on the list.

In all, only seven Canadian companies made the grade.

“This validates the hard work of our entire team,” newly minted CEO Steve Munford said in a release. “It underscores the growing importance of identity verification in response to global challenges requiring companies to meet the highest standards in compliance and security.”

Last November, Two Hat Security closed a US$7.5-million financing round led by a San Francisco company, while Carbon Engineering also had good news this week, in the form of plans for a massive new facility
