Seven Canadian firms appear on CB Insights’ Fintech 250

The third Fintech 250 list is out, and two local companies have reason to celebrate.

Global identification service Trulioo and payment platform Instant Financial, both based in Vancouver, are the only B.C. names to make the grade.

The annual list, put together by New York–based business analytics firm CB Insights, seeks to put a spotlight on the fastest-growing startups in fintech.

Five other Canadian companies, all based in Ontario, made the list: Michele Romanow’s venture capital firm Clearbanc, health insurance disruptor League, mobile banking platform NorthOne, investor relations service provider Q4 and restaurant point-of-sale specialist TouchBistro.

“We are truly honoured to be included in CB Insights’ Fintech 250 roster for a second year alongside some of the most transformative and prestigious fintech companies in the world,” Trulioo CEO Steve Munford said in a release. The company first achieved the honour in 2017.

Trulioo was also named to the CNBC’s Disruptor 50 list of the world’s most innovative companies and recognized by the World Economic Forum this year.

Instant Financial, which also has offices in Atlanta and Montreal, closed a $14.3-million Series A financing round in 2018.
