VanFunding conference explores blockchain and other fintech opportunities

Daylong gathering will bring together entrepreneurs, investors and industry pros

Is blockchain the next big thing? What does financial technology mean for the global banking system? What’s an initial coin offering? Here’s your chance to find out.

On November 28, the VanFunding 2017 Blockchain, Fintech & Funding Conference will see more than 50 expert speakers gather in Vancouver. Joining them are entrepreneurs, investors, vendors, policymakers and other players from the burgeoning fintech space, which includes several Vancouver bitcoin and blockchain firms. BCBusiness is a media partner of the conference, organized by the National Crowdfunding Association of Canada, which takes place at SFU’s Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue.

Among the speakers: Jouko Ahvenainen, founder and executive chair of fintech investor Grow VC Group; Brady Fletcher, managing director of the TSX Venture Exchange; Esther Kim, global blockchain markets and engagement financial services sector executive at IBM Corp.; and Eric Maino, principal software engineering lead with Microsoft Corp.

The conference also includes B.C.’s first regtech hackathon, co-hosted by the British Columbia Securities Commission, where participants will compete for prizes with a total value of $20,000.
