Pressboard comes second in the Native Advertising Platform/Network of the Year category
Pressboard Media Inc., a Vancouver-based startup that dubs itself an “online story marketplace,” claimed silver in one of the main categories at the Native Advertising Awards. The awards took place last week during the third annual Native Advertising Days (yes, such a thing exists) in Berlin.
The company seeks to connect brands with publishers to create branded content. Although native advertising (material that's made to look like they it's content inherent to where it appears, instead of advertising) has become an additional source of revenue for publishers (businesses will often pay more for native content than for traditional advertising), Pressboard has succeeded largely thanks to its payment model.
Advertisers are only charged when people view their content. This system has encouraged blue-chip corporations like Ford Motor Co., General Electric, General Mills Inc. and JPMorgan Chase & Co to sign on, while publishers using Pressboard include Vox Media, a digital media company that runs over 300 sites, and Torstar Corp., which runs Canada's largest newspaper in terms of weekly circulation, the Toronto Star. According to Pressboard, the company works with more than 250 publishers across North America.
