In Ambleside and Dundarave, we believe it takes a village to make a village, to embrace our local shops and services, and to encourage residents, employees and visitors to West Vancouver to support our local economy. The villages are home to interesting and varied shopping, and cultural and restaurant offerings with expansive ocean and mountain views featuring both historic and modern buildings that house over 400 businesses.

An easily accessible bedroom community, West Vancouver offers many attributes that are attractive to residents and business owners alike. Community values, physical attributes and the natural environment give residents and visitors the distinct advantage of being able to live life to the fullest. Marinas, theatres, festivals, shopping, trails, galleries, beaches, acres of parkland and two golf courses mean you’ll never run out of entertainment and leisure options.

The two main commercial districts, Ambleside and Dundarave, are overseen by the Ambleside Dundarave Business Improvement Association (ADBIA). Ambleside Village is moments away from Lions Gate Bridge and features over 300 businesses. Here, you can discover international and local dining, one-of-a-kind shops, a variety of services and fine boutiques—all in a beautiful seaside setting. If you stroll along the seawall to the quaint village of Dundarave, you’ll find a delightful shopping experience with a mix of retail, professional services and exceptional dining. Dundarave has over 100 businesses and is rich in history and heritage.

West Vancouver is comprised of several unique neighbourhoods, each with its own personality, traditions, distinctive architecture and lifestyle choices. Residents have a range of options from expansive waterfront properties and traditional homes to smart modern condos and established apartment rentals. For those living across the North Shore, employment in West Vancouver means less of a commute, working within a strong local community and a vibrant economy with easy access to enjoy nature on a lunch break or after work.

As the midway point between Vancouver airport and Whistler or the Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal, Ambleside offers a great opportunity to stop for a bite to eat, stretch your legs walking the seawall or beach, visit the murals in our business district or pop into the unique shops. Downtown Vancouver is a quick 15-minute drive and the airport less than an hour, offering ready access to domestic and global markets and making Ambleside or Dundarave a great location for any business.

West Vancouver also has its own municipal transit system. The beloved “Blue Bus” was established in 1912 and is one of the oldest continuously operated municipal transit systems in North America. The frequent bus service affords easy transport of visitors or employees to their destinations. Drivers appreciate the business areas of both Ambleside and Dundarave as shopping destinations that offer free and ample street parking.

The future of West Vancouver is bright as the ADBIA works to create Ambleside Imagined. After surveying over 1,000 residents for their input and feedback on how they envision Ambleside, efforts have begun to bring to town a brewery, hotel, activated waterfront with sailing, paddle boards, a small marina and a foot passenger ferry to downtown. Activated laneways allowing for more outdoor dining and shopping, live music venues and pubs, an oyster bar on the water, and improved pedestrian and cycling options will create a thriving and lively community for the future.

West Vancouver is a place to live, work and play for all ages. The ADBIA is a strong advocate for our business community. It is committed to curating the businesses we want to see in our community and working with investors on thoughtful development to maintain the look and feel of our seaside villages as we endeavour to create a world-renown destination. Make a day of it and visit the villages of Ambleside and Dundarave or learn more about how you can be a part of the future of our community!
