90th-birthday celebration includes Chicken in the Straw and a commemorative coin

On June 16, White Spot turns 90 years old. The City of Vancouver has proclaimed the date White Spot 90th Anniversary Day, and visitors to any White Spot location on June 16 will receive one of 50,000 limited edition commemorative coins (while supplies last).

From June 4 to July 15, restaurant guests can order new takes on retro menu items, including Chicken in the Straw: a crispy quarter-chicken served with creamy coleslaw on a “nest” of Kennebec fries. Although White Spot is known for its burgers and Triple O sauce, it began as a barbecue chicken restaurant and was made popular with dishes such as the BBQ Chicken Sandwich and Chicken in the Straw, says executive chef Danny Markowicz.

Headquartered in Vancouver, White Spot was founded in 1928 when Nat Bailey launched Canada’s first drive-in restaurant at Granville Street and 67th Avenue. The chain now serves more than 17 million guests annually at 133 White Spot and Triple O’s locations in B.C., Alberta and Asia. White Spot is No. 5 on this year’s BCBusiness list of most loved brands.
