BCBusiness will announce the 2017 30 Under 30 winners on April 13. In the meantime, here’s what a 2016 winner had to say last year

To help us choose last year’s 30 Under 30, we sent each candidate a series of questions to see what made them tick. Here’s how Cristina Samper Pearl, who owns Fluent Productions and The Event Planner Academy, responded.

What motivational quote gets you going?
“If you don’t build your dream someone will hire you to help build theirs.’ – Tony Gaskins.
‘If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you.’ – Fred Devito
‘The secret to getting ahead is getting started.’ – Mark Twain.”

Beyond family and friends, who inspires you to succeed?
“Young entrepreneurs who work against the odds: Richard Branson, Marie Forleo.”

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
“Take time to be thankful for what you have now. It’s probably what your younger self dreamt about having in the future.”

What’s the worst advice you’ve ever received?
“Don’t outsource what you can do yourself. This isn’t exactly worst advice but sometimes its best to focus on your inner genius and leave what you don’t have time for to others.”

What’s your biggest fear?
“Mediocrity and getting in my own way. I want to live an extraordinary life.”

What’s your biggest regret?
“Not getting started sooner.”

What’s your favourite TV show right now?
Narcos. I’m ashamed to admit it but I want to see what all the fuss is about and how accurately they are portraying Colombia.”

A little known fact about me is…
I speak three languages, hold three passports and the country I most identify with is Colombia.
