BCBusiness will announce the 2017 30 Under 30 winners on April 13. In the meantime, here’s what a 2016 winner had to say last year

To help us choose last year’s 30 Under 30, we sent each candidate a series of questions to see what made them tick. Here’s how Nick Seto, who Co-Founded Target Tape Inc, responded.

What motivational quote gets you going?
“There is nothing impossible to him who will try’ – Alexander the Great.”

Beyond family/friends, who inspires you to succeed?
Stories of successful people have always motivated me. I feel very inspired with any story about someone with humble beginnings who make it to the top. The story of Jan Koum, co-founder of WhatsApp, is a recent one I’ve admired. Achieving even a small fraction of that success story would be remarkable. I always think to myself, ‘If they can do it, why can’t I?”

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
“Never cheap out on anything that separates you from the floor. Spend extra to get a high quality mattress, sheets, shoes, tires, sofa and chairs. We spend the majority of our life on these things, being physically comfortable allows you to focus and be more productive on other priorities.”

What’s the worst advice you’ve ever received?
The worst advice is when I tell myself, I don’t need to write that down, I’ll remember it.”

What’s your biggest fear?
I’m not a believer in disclosing my fears.”

What’s your biggest regret?
“I regret not staying as physically active in my early to mid twenties. It’s much easier to maintain something (like your body) at peak levels, than to let it wear down and try to fix things later.”

What’s your favourite TV show right now?
Power. It’s a riveting series about a character managing his double life as he attempts to transition as NYC’s largest cocaine distributor, to a successful legitimate night club owner. He’s not only struggling to leave a life of violence and crime, but making hard choices between his business, family, first love, and loyal friends. I enjoy watching how someone handles all these challenges.”

Favourite magazine?
The Art of Manliness. Its an online blog dedicated to uncovering the lost art of being a man, with an end goal to create a synergy of the best parts of traditional and modern qualities of masculinity.”

What song is on repeat on your device right now?
“While training for my next marathon, ‘Till I Collapse’ – Eminem (remix ft. 2pac). When I’m relaxing, S’imple Things’ by Miguel.”

A little-known fact about me is…
I have a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo.”
