B.C. hotel owners are smiling today and it isn’t just because of the tourism-friendly sunshine.
The province’s hotels and resorts led the Canadian hospitality rankings of the iconic annual Travel + Leisure magazine “World’s Best Awards,” a reader-chosen index of the world’s top hotels, destinations and travel companies. Tofino’s Wickaninnish Inn took the top honour of any B.C. property, ranking 30th overall for top hotels worldwide. It is also the only property in Canada to be noted as a Travel + Leisure “Hall of Fame award winner.” A property must appear on the World’s Best list for 10 consecutive years to be considered a hall of fame member.
“To once again be ranked among the world’s best and to have made the list for over 10 years in a row, is a measure of consistent quality that is a great testament to the dedicated team at the Wickaninnish Inn,” says Charles McDiarmid, Managing Director of the Wickaninnish Inn. In its review of the Wick (as it’s known to staff and returning guests), the travel publication noted how its “duvet-covered beds and deep soaking tubs rest beside floor-to-ceiling windows that look out on the churning ocean and rain-lashed coast.”
B.C.—and namely Vancouver—properties also did well in the “City Hotels” category, with five of the city’s hotels ranking in the Canadian Top 10. The Fairmont Pacific Rim has been named the top city hotel in the country (and ranked 86th in the world). Fairmont was the most-recognized hotel brand in Canada, with five properties ranking in Canadian top 10 “City Hotels” category, and an additional three ranking in the “Top Resorts” category.
