Canada is No. 1 in the Group of Seven and 16th among 190 economies for ease of paying taxes, according to the latest ranking by PwC and the World Bank Group. Compared to other G7 countries, it also has the lowest total tax rate for small and medium-sized businesses: 20.9 per cent, less than half the U.S. burden. Topping the G7 list is France, where smaller companies pay a whopping 62.2 percent.
Canada has made the top 20 for eight years, peaking at No. 8 in 2013 and 2014. But it could take a tumble if Ottawa pushes ahead with proposed tax changes for private corporations, the authors of the 12th annual ranking warn.
