Vancouver-based Durable continues its roll, raises $14 million in Series A funding

Founder James Clift has been starting businesses since he was in high school in White Rock.

Less than a month ago, we profiled Durable founder James Clift, a former winner of our 30 Under 30 program and a serial entrepreneur who wants to make owning a business easier than having a job. He’s taken another step toward that goal today with the announcement that Durable—which helps small business owners scale their operations—has raised $14 million in Series A funding.

Durable has helped build more than 6 million websites for customers like dog-walkers, tutors, HVAC mechanics and barbers, among many other types of entrepreneurs. The company has 15 employees and raised a $6 million seed round last year. So yeah, things are going well.

“We are building a global platform for entrepreneurship—where anyone with a skill can create a successful business in minutes,” said Clift in a release. “We believe in a world where almost everyone is self-employed, and owning a business is a default option.”

The round was led by U.S. VC firm Spark Capital, with participation from Torch Capital, South Park Commons, Infinity Ventures, Dash Fund, Altman Capital, Soma Capital and more.
