Meat or veg? Your sandwich’s carbon footprint

Convenience has its price, as U.K. scientists recently showed by calculating the carbon emissions produced by the humble sandwich. Studying home-made and commercial offerings, the researchers factored in everything from ingredients and packaging to transport and refrigeration. The worst offender: a store-bought all-day-breakfast sandwich, whose carbon footprint is the equivalent of driving almost 20 kilometres.
