Rogers Wireless (RW), Canada’s largest provider of wireless communication services, is continuing to blaze new trails with innovative business solutions for companies across B.C.
Rogers recently worked with one of the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island’s foremost scheduled coach service companies – Pacific Coach Lines (PCL).
To provide a cutting-edge service in a competitive market, PCL sought to expand and enhance its range and give customers increased value for money. Installing on-board Wi-Fi in 17 of its 40-strong fleet of buses was one such way.
PCL also wanted to improve its operational efficiency and better manage its entire fleet via a GPS tracking system and more up-to-date communication devices.
Rogers was approached by PCL to help take its passenger, charter and sightseeing tour services to the next level. RW provided PCL with a triple-play wireless service, encompassing on-board Wi-Fi, GPS tracking system and management smart-phones.

Regional tech firms Keraki, Microhard and Nero Global brought on board . . .

The Rogers team worked with the Seattle branch of San Francisco-based firm Meraki (provider of access point hardware) and Calgary company Microhard (the modem supplier) to produce an all-in-one Wi-Fi solution.
Meraki’s Cloud-hosted product – which allows PCL to compile data usage on each bus and increase or decrease the range of service accordingly – offers passengers an exceptional Wi-Fi service that gives PCL an edge over BC Transit.
The GPS tracking solution, provided by Vancouver-based firm Nero Global, has enabled PCL to streamline its scheduling, optimize daily routes, reduce vehicle idling, and maximize the efficiency and maintenance of its coaches. Rogers provided wireless connectivity.
“We have a great relationship with Rogers, which was extremely responsive in creating and deploying the solution,” says Tina Lam, Operations Manager at PCL. “Rogers and partners have also solved any problems quickly and efficiently.”
“We considered several other solutions, but Rogers are local and it’s nice to have someone who can give us hands-on help whenever we need it.”
