The City of Coquitlam

The City of Coquitlam—a vibrant, diverse and growing community with a population of 138,000—is strategically situated in the heart of Metro Vancouver. Coquitlam’s proximity to Vancouver, access to markets, transportation and housing options, recreation opportunities, highly educated labour force, open and accessible local government and innovative business community are some of the factors that are driving economic growth. The major sectors are: technology; professional services; retail/wholesale trade; manufacturing; public administration; transportation; construction and tourism.

A variety of businesses call Coquitlam home, including Coca-Cola (distribution), Hard Rock Casino, Natural Factors, Rhema Health Products, Rolls Royce, The Oppenheimer Group and Williams Moving. Further, to stimulate growth, the City of Coquitlam is focused on developing progressive solutions that positively impact the community. This is demonstrated by QNet, a wholly owned subsidiary of the City of Coquitlam that has invested in fibre optic infrastructure—60 km to date. The network, which was originally started by the City of Coquitlam to connect the City’s traffic signal system and facilities, provides low-cost broadband services across the city for businesses and residents.

The City of Coquitlam is dedicated to creating a business environment that fosters business growth. In 2013, the City of Coquitlam was honoured to receive the BC Small Business Roundtable’s Open For Business Award from the Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training.  The City was recognized for its commitment to enhancing business success through innovative policy and program development.
