Vancouverites who believe the world ends, professionally if not geographically, at the Fraser River could take a lesson from lawyer James MacLean, who left a partnership in a downtown Vancouver firm to set up shop in the Township of Langley – and lived to tell about it. Happily ensconced on a horse farm in idyllic Campbell Valley, he talks about how busy he is catering to local business clients who, like him, enjoy a quality of life and economic opportunity that rarely coexist in the same community. When he has time, he even indulges in a little reverse discrimination. “I only go downtown about once a month now,” says MacLean.
