Twitter has not yet chosen an office, but expects to have a location set by the end of the summer.
Twitter is rolling out its presence in Canada with three new employees and an office in Toronto.
Hiring one of Canada’s highest-profile media executives as its first employee demonstrates the shift in the media landscape from traditional publishers to digital media behemoths, reported The Globe and Mail.
Kirstine Stewart, a former CBC VP heading up English-language services, will take the helm of Twitter’s newest branch.
Following the announcement, Stewart told TechCrunch that she has been a, “longtime champion of great content,” and that Twitter is doing, “incredibly exciting,” things on that front.
The social media network also announced it was on the hunt for two more employees to join Stewart—an account executive and account manager.
Twitter isn’t the only social media site bulking up its presence in Canada; Facebook has also boosted its Canadian ad operations and reached out to partners in Vancouver in recent months.
And while it’s purely speculation, Vancouver’s burgeoning tech industry and its close proximity to Twitter’s headquarters in San Francisco, Calif., make our fair city a prime market for a second branch of Twitter Canada.
