Two B.C. companies make the 25 Top-Rated Workplaces in Canada

Companies are supposed to listen to their workers. We bet they’ll pay attention to Indeed‘s second annual 25 Top-Rated Workplaces in Canada ranking, compiled from employee reviews on the job search site.

Luxury hospitality chain Fairmont Hotels & Resorts debuted at No. 1 on the list. Construction giant Ledcor Group of Companies, which has corporate offices in Vancouver and San Diego, vaulted to second—up 14 places from 2017. Credit card provider American Express, another newcomer, took third place.

Once again, the only other B.C. company to make the top 25 is Vancouver-headquartered Telus Corp., falling 10 spots, to No. 13. Telus and Ledcor finished No. 1 and No. 16, respectively, in our latest Top 100 ranking of the biggest B.C.-based companies by revenue.

The financial sector is well represented in Top-Rated Workplaces winners: besides Amex, Toronto-Dominion Bank, Royal Bank of Canada and Desjardins Group made the top 10. The oil and gas industry also made a strong showing, thanks to Suncor Energy (No. 4) and Husky Energy (No. 7).

Unlike many other best-workplace rankings, this one is based solely on employee feedback. To create the list, Indeed drew on hundreds of thousands of company reviews submitted by site users between June 2016 and June 2018.

Companies, which must have at least 50 reviews to be eligible, are rated on the overall employee experience, including work-life balance, pay and benefits, job security and advancement, management and culture.
