What Canadians think of zoos and captive cetaceans: poll

A study done by Angus Reid Institute shows that twice as many Canadians disapprove of keeping cetaceans—whales, dolphins and porpoises—as think it’s OK. In Ontario, where there have been movements against Marineland, a popular aquarium in Niagara Falls, 54 percent of residents say that captivity should be banned. On the other hand, 62 percent of Canadians also see value in zoos and aquariums, saying that they make a community a better place to live.
