Legalization of recreational cannabis will take place in Canada on October 17, but we still dont know exactly what that will look like when it comes to accessibility.

So far, only one legal retail outlet, a government-run BC Cannabis Store, is slated to open on the 17th, according to Global BC. That shop will be in Kamloops, and the fate of the legions of privately owned stores seeking licences from the province remains undecided.

Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth said that his government has received about 100 applications from would-be private retailers, which must undergo background checks.

But Farnworth also warned that unlicensed shops days are numbered.
