From crackers to candy, our province has some healthy options

During Jagmeet Singh’s byelection campaign for the Burnaby South constituency, BCBusiness interviewed the federal NDP leader. We quizzed him on a number of topics, including his favourite snack, which apparently is kombucha. Although this province is home to several venerable kombucha producers, we have to say sorry to them and to Singh: the delicious drink isn’t a snack. Good thing B.C. isn’t exactly lacking in the healthy snack department. Here are a few suggestions.

You don’t even have to go to the store to satisfy that small craving; just order some Naked Snacks to your door. The Richmond outfit offers boxes of different healthy foods, including many arrays of nuts and dried fruit. Customers can mix and match however they like. Over in Vancouver, Eve’s Crackers supplies vegan, gluten-free crackers in three flavours (black sesame, chili pepper–pumpkin seed and savoury sunflower) to select stores across the Lower Mainland.

Sweet Relief

Can you satisfy your sweet tooth without ruining a workout? Vancouver-headquartered SmartSweets would say yes: the operation, which bills its product as the “first delicious candy without the sugar,” sells five varieties. For those who like their snacks in traditional dairy forms but prefer to steer away from lactose, there are Vancouver-based options like Nora’s Plant-Based Ice Cream, which uses coconut and cashews, and Yoggu, fermented probiotic yogurt made with coconut cream.
