Above the weathered awnings of Chinatown’s markets, The Emerald is a 1960s Vegas-inspired haven from the creators of The Narrow Lounge and Rumpus Room.
The claustrophobic staircase is a portal back in time to the dark and boisterous era of the Rat Pack. Geometric partitions in dark wood and gold leaf separate the space, and carefully curated music mixes old with new to satisfy any thirst for nostalgia.
The weekend brunch buffet includes an omelette chef standing by to fold your favourite fillings into any number of eggs. Parched? Try the Caesar cart, wheeled to each table, where diners can pick from a plethora of ingredients both common (hot sauce options) and uncommon (pepperoni, hard-boiled quail egg).
For dinner, the crispy Brussels sprouts are a must-try, even for those normally wary of the tiny cabbages. Many of the mains come in both meat and veggie versions, such as the chicken or tofu parmesan.
The drink menu is laden with bourbon and gin cocktails. Those who have fallen for the green fairy are encouraged to indulge in Hemingway’s invention, Death in the Afternoon, an aromatic absinthe and champagne beverage.
