This industry produces more carbon emissions than the oil-and-gas majors

Holy cow! The world’s top five meat and dairy corporations now collectively emit more annual greenhouse gases than Exxon, Shell or BP. According to a report by the U.S.-headquartered Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy (IATP) and Grain, an international non-profit organization based in Barcelona that supports small farmers, the combined emissions of the top 20 meat and dairy companies surpass those of entire nations, such as Germany, Canada, Australia or the U.K. Moreover, the industry is pursuing growth strategies that will increase emissions just when they need to be reduced to counter global warming.
