Amazon’s new Vancouver HQ may drive housing prices sky high

Amazon’s redevelopment of the 416,000-square-foot Canada Post mailing centre might open 5,000 new jobs in Vancouver, but it’s also going to hurt Vancouver housing prices. The city’s housing supply has remained below 1 percent for three years in a row, and despite government measures to reduce prices, they are still up 16 percent in the past year. The “Amazon Effect” is certainly not going to make it better, as the company’s Seattle headquarters has drivenhousing prices up by 50 percent in that real estate market in the past decades.
