As if B.C.‘s renters weren‘t facing enough of an uphill climb, the province has just approved an allowed increase of 4.5 percent for landlords in 2019, CBC reports.
It‘s the largest such hike since 2004.
The average monthly rent for a one-bedroom apartment in the Vancouver Census Metropolitan Area is $1,223, according to the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp.
The increase applied to that average would mean a $660 rise over the course of a year.
It’s sure to be an issue during next month’s civic elections.
