After two long days of public hearings, City Council approved the legalization of duplexes in 99 percent of all single-family neighbourhoods in Vancouver. It was the last major council decision for this government, and Vision Vancouver in general, according to the Vancouver Sun.

Vision has held the majority in council for 10 years but won’t after the municipal elections on October 20.

The vote passed with seven of 11 councillors in favour. All Vision members voted in favour, while NPA councillors Melissa De Genova, George Affleck and Elizabeth Ball, as well as Green councillor Adriane Carr, voted against.

Independent councillor Hector Bremner, who was originally elected as a member of the NPA but left the party when he was turned down as its mayoral candidate, voted in favour of the mandate. Bremner is running for mayor on October 20 with his new party Yes Vancouver and a plan to “fix housing” in the city.
