Short-term home rentals are now legal in Vancouver—if you have a licence

As of April 19, Vancouver home-owners and tenants can rent out part or all of their principal residence for less than 30 days without breaking the law—as long as they have a business licence. As part of the online application process, operators must agree to health, safety and “good neighbour” requirements plus regular audits and inspections. Property owners and tenants who currently operate a short-term rental have until August 31 to obtain a business licence and post it in their online listings before the city starts cracking down. Starting September 1, the city will expand enforcement to include all unlicensed or invalid residential operators. Anyone who suspects an illegal short-term rental can call 311 or report it through the City’s VanConnect app.
