How travel and tourism industries are outperforming the wider global economy

For much of the past decade, the travel-and-tourism sector has outperformed the overall economy, and during the next 10 years, it will create almost one in four jobs worldwide, according to the United Nations World Travel & Tourism Council

Much of this is thanks to travellers from China, for whom exotic locations are replacing luxury goods as status symbols. The country already accounts for more than a fifth of the money spent by outbound tourists, twice as much as the next-biggest spender, the U.S., according to the United Nations World Tourism Organization. And with the Chinese government is issuing about 10 million new travel documents every year, the numbers are expected to increase.
